An open letter to the Honorable John Conyers and Congress

I just read this today, and to be honest, I am completely dumbfounded.

"Conyers said he wants a public discussion of the issues being raised by Kucinich, but does not plan to take any action on the resolution.

WE’RE NOT DOING IMPEACHMENT, BUT HE CAN TALK ABOUT IT,

the chairman said."

John, we have been talking this to death. The crimes are CLEAR. Many have been admitted to. Breaking FISA law is a FELONY, which they admitted to. Torture is wrong, morally and constitutionally, and is prohibited by many treaties we have signed and that the president is OBLIGATED to uphold. (and raises the question of war crimes punishable by death). And these crimes and misdemeanors have been going on for several years. The real question is why has it taken Congress so long to act?

What about "The Constitution in Crisis". Do you remember that document produced a few YEARS ago in 2005? And you wonder why people complain about inaction in Congress. What the hell has the executive branch found out about you that you now act like cowering kittens?

John, you HAVE to initiate impeachment hearings. Your oath of office OBLIGATES YOU TO DO IT! These charges from Representatives Dennis Kucinich and Robert Wexler need to be aired publically, and this needs to be done now. Read "United States v. George W. Bush et al." by Liz de la Vega. She lays out the whole case. The work has been done. Just do it! These guys are guilty as sin, and much of America knows it, and much of the world knows it. There can be no reason for not initiating these hearings UNLESS Congress is being held hostage because of these illegal and non-supervised forays into everyone’s lives despite the guarantee of the fourth amendment.

A little history on this amendment from Wikipedia: “Fourth amendment to the United States Constitution is one of the provisions included in the Bill of Rights. The Fourth Amendment guards against unreasonable searches and seizures, and was designed as a response to the controversial writs of assistance (a type of general search warrant), which were a significant factor behind the American Revolution. Toward that end, the amendment specifies that judicially sanctioned search and arrest warrants must be supported by probable cause and be limited in scope…

A Writ of Assistance is a legal document that serves as a general search warrant.

Colonists protested that the writs violated their rights as British citizens

Any place could be searched at the whim of the holder, and searchers were not responsible for any damage they caused.

This put anyone who had such a writ above the law.” !

Let me reiterate that this was one of the reasons soldiers and minutemen died during the revolution in towns like mine, so we could have this right that you apparently think is unimportant.

Rigged Elections & a Buffoon for president

Bush to Musharraf: "We Believe in Elections" and "You Can't Be President and Head of Military at Same Time"

Nobody who has been following the truth about the 2004 election would believe Bush really believes in elections. There was fraud in Ohio, and Bush is currently the unelected king.

I would have thought that he knew that in the US the Constitution allows for the Commander in Chief to also be President. So why did he decide to delegate this authority by appointing a War Czar?

Underestimating the Words of Evil Men... Committing Atrocious Atrocities

"History teaches us that underestimating the words of evil, ambitious men is a terrible mistake..." (George Bush addressing the Heritage Foundation 01-Nov-2007)

"
President Bush compared Congress' Democratic leaders Thursday to people who ignored the rise of Lenin and Hitler early in the last century, saying "the world paid a terrible price" then and risks similar consequences for inaction today." (Bush tells Dems war denial is dangerous, Jennifer Loven, AP 01-Nov-07)

I agree with George that this is true, but the danger is not from Congress ignoring his pleas for war, the danger is in Congress' inaction in addressing this administrations' atrocious atrocities. Torture, imprisonment without trial, extraordinary renditions, hired mercenaries, dropping of habeas corpus, lying US into war, illegal wiretapping breaking FISA laws, stacking US Attorneys, and breaking his oath of office.

Complete and utter failures in everything except for killing over 1,000,000 people, making refugees of 2 to 4 million, and driving the country into bankruptcy while lining the pockets of friends and big donors.

We should not underestimate this. We should take a stand. Impeach these men, and then try them for war crimes. And if they are judged guilty, let them face the verdict.

No Child Left Behind ... continues

George Bush' infamous "No Child Left Behind" has tragic repercussions in Iraq:
"A visibly-upset man held up a photo of one of the dead children..."

"Two toddlers have been killed by US air strikes which left another 13 people dead and at least 69 wounded in a Shi'ite stronghold of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

As doctors treated wounded men and boys, the bodies of the two young children, one in a nappy, lay on crumpled blankets in the morgue of Imam Ali hospital in Sadr City - the main stronghold in Baghdad for the Mehdi Army, a Shi'ite militia loyal to cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

Clouds of black smoke rose from Sadr City as sirens wailed, heavy gunfire echoed and US attack helicopters circled overhead, according to television reports.

A visibly-upset man held up a photo of one of the dead children in a house where one of the toddlers lived and pointed to bloodstained mattresses and blood-splattered pillows.

Outside the house, a woman said: "We were waking in the morning and all of a sudden rockets landed in the house and the children were screaming."

"Toddlers killed in US air strikes on Iraq" Channel 4 ITN 21-Oct-2007

This is the legacy of this insanity. Why aren't millions of people in the streets everyday asking for war trials and appropriate punishment? Do they not realize that we have killed over a million people? And turned more millions into refugees? And is George able to have any vicarious feelings of what these people are going through, and does he understand for every innocent child killed and maimed there will be a cadre of people committed to revenge?

How can a man kill innocent people so simply?

"How can man kill innocent people so simply?" These are words of an Iraqi reporter after he left a man who lost his wife of 40 years to the senseless shooting by the Blackwater mercenaries.

And although this refers to the Blackwater forces, it also applies to president Bush, the Commander In Chief. He is responsible for the death, now of nearly 1,000,000 people. Most of them women and children. Most of them innocent. All of them dead.

And what about the refugees? A million? Two million?

But God knows, as does Allah. And if there is justice in this world, they will be tried, sentenced, and punished. But that will do almost nothing for the 40 years lost in a single thoughtless act. And almost nothing for the millions more who love someone else who has perished.

What If They Broke Every Law With Impunity?

If elected officials have broken their oath of office to preserve and protect the Constitution. If they have broken US (FISA) and International Laws they are Constitutionally obliged to enforce, then shouldn't they be tried and impeached? And if they have broken international laws that has resulted in the death of several people, shouldn't they be tried for that also, and punished if guilty? And if we, as American citizens don't insist on this, are we not complicit?

"One of the largest lessons from the massive debacles of the Bush administration will be that there is no mechanism for putting a leash on a cabal with extreme power.
The Bush Administration has broken virtually every law and rule in the books with impunity. There is no Constitutional leash left to protect the nation from an abusive Executive Branch. That is a sad lesson to learn, but it did not just happen. It has been a plan long in the making. The question is, is it a plan we can reverse?"

The Injustice of Having to Leave Your Country is Overwhelming

"The problem is that we don't even know if we'll ever see this stuff again. We don't know if whatever we leave, including the house, will be available when and if we come back. There are moments when the injustice of having to leave your country, simply because an imbecile got it into his head to invade it, is overwhelming. It is unfair that in order to survive and live normally, we have to leave our home and what remains of family and friends ... And to what?"

Quote from Riverbend, author of Bagdad Burning blog, talking about leaving her home in Iraq.
